Inert gas fire suppression systems

Inert gas suppression systems use argon and nitrogen gases and their mixtures as an extinguishing agent and are based in the principle of reducing the oxygen concentration inside the protected hazard. The oxygen concentration is minimized by the application of inert gas until it reaches a level where combustion is no longer supported. Each system is designed so as to decrease oxygen to a specific level. When discharged, inert gas is quickly and uniformly distributed within the enclosure, achieving design concentration in 60 seconds.

Argon and nitrogen it is naturally present in the atmosphere, therefore its green-house effect is nil and its ozone layer depletion potential is zero. It is chemically inert, non-conductive, colourless, odourless and flavourless. inert gas is non-corrosive and may be used at normal temperatures with such materials as nickel, steel, stainless steel, copper, brass, bronze and plastics.

These gases will never be re-classified as “hazardous waste” nor require special inspection procedures under the EU’s “F” Gas Regulations.

Inert gas fire suppression systems are the safe, natural way to extinguish a fire. Because of its unique patented valve assembly, inert gas agent enters the protected room within the industry required 60 seconds but at a steady flow rate — preventing destructive turbulence from occurring.

Gas suppression systems are able to combat fires automatically in sensitive areas where it is best to avoid using water. They protect life and can prevent costly water damage to equipment, saving you money. They work by releasing clean agent or inert gases into the building at the point of smoke detection.

These agents work by releasing the gas into the air, starving the fire of oxygen or heat and eliminating it. This either lowers the oxygen in the room or in some instances reduces the chemical reaction in the atmosphere, cooling the fire enough to dissipate and prevent spread.

They extinguish fire by reducing the core heat of the fire, isolating the fuel source, reducing and cutting off the fires access to oxygen and by reducing the chemical reaction that causes more combustion to occur.

A fire alarm system is a building system designed to detect and alert occupants and emergency forces of the presence of smoke, fire, carbon monoxide, or other fire-related emergencies. Fire alarms systems are required in most commercial buildings.

AutoFireX® DHP- Direct High-Pressure Co2 Systems are primarily a PreEngineered Automatic Fire detection and suppression System utilising High pressure agent Co2. These Units are designed, manufactured, and
tested in ISO 9001:2015 certified facilities

The AutoFireX® Linear Pneumatic Fire Detection Tubing (FDT) is installed and connected to DHP Valve and routed throughout the protected hazard area/enclosure. Being heat sensitive, the primary function of Linear
Pneumatic Fire Detection Tube (under pressure) is to detect heat/fire and activate the valve for discharge of the agent by rupturing at the hottest point along its installed length on flame impingement. On rupture a nozzle is formed at the burst point.

The Co2 clean agent under pressure, in the cylinder then flows out through the burst point, distributing the Co2 gas through the protected enclosure and extinguishing the fire instantly.

Each DHP system consists of a High-Grade Brass Direct valve assembly with 3 Ports (1 x Inlet connection-W28.8×1/14″- 1 1/8″-12 UNF-2A, M 25x 2; 1 x Outlet connection M10x0,75 & 1 x Filling connection- W 21,8 x 1/14″) and siphon tube, a quarter turn Next Gen isolation valve with a G 1/8” threaded push-in/ slip on union is provided to connect the AutoFireX® Fire Detection Tubing. A Pressure gauge is also be provided to monitor the system pressure. The system is supplied complete with light weight UL approved High-Pressure Seam less Aluminium Alloy Cylinders and Brackets and DHP valve Guard.

To assist in annunciation, an optional pressure switch can be installed at the end of the detection line using an End of Line Adaptor, also available with the system. The pressure switch provides a potential free contact, that can be interfaced, with existing FACP (Fire Alarm Control Panel) to indicate system discharge, shutdown ventilation, shut-off electrical power, as may be required. Alternatively, it can also be connected to a Audio Visual (A/V) alarm unit for annunciation.

 

Since the units are supplied as automatic units no simultaneous manual or electric actuators are provided.
